learn moreOur engineering and design team executed this complete EPC turn-key project as a “hybrid” modular process unit for a customer in the southern United States. A few large equipment items and the regeneration towers were not well suited to a fully modular design.
Instead, our team designed the unit to keep the more complicated piping and smaller equipment items on module but shipped the large equipment and towers directly to the site for installation.
A fully modular turn-key sulfur recovery unit designed and built by PTI using our large module fabrication subcontractor. The unit shipped via barge to a gulf coast refinery.
Small capacity process units can suffer from conflicts between optimizing towers for process design versus the structural requirements to make it self-supporting.
These sour water stripper and fuel gas contactor towers are an example from our project portfolio of a vertical module approach to solve this problem. The tower module was fabricated and shipped in the horizontal position, including installing all instruments, piping, steam tracing, insulation, and equipment.
Once at the site, we flipped the module vertical. This alternate approach provided additional room on the platforms for operators to access the tower instruments, eliminated the need to oversize the towers for structural support, and provided the same benefits of pre-installation as its horizontal cousins.
